Winter

In winter, lacy, lazily falling flakes,
such beautiful creation, how it takes
my breath away!  Or waterfall frozen in mid flight
like a bluebird’s wing.  The pure delight

of deer stopped still in the shimmering snow
to look at me, their eyes aglow
with purest life.  The thrilling sound
of icy creek water coursing through the ground.

I’ve often heard by many said
that winter is when everything’s dead
but one walk through a winter forest shows
that just like spring, life everywhere glows!
