October Shadows

October rain beats against me from diluted skies flame and golden leaves crackling surrendering to the soggy mud crunched by footsteps on hills that seem a little steeper   shadows fall fast I trudge into damp darkness and it’s only afternoon a chill in the shadows fleeting but all too present is winter waiting?
